Clarissa Harris-LeBreton
March 19, 2012
Congratulations Clarissa Harris-LeBreton, you are WOW!
WOMEN applauds Clarissa Harris-LeBreton, Coordinator of Vision Health Promotion and Marketing with CNIB (Canadian National Institute of the Blind) for the Maritimes. Clarissa is also a valued member of our WOMEN Board of Directors.
Clarrisa’s career began in journalism and later merged into marketing, sales and communications. While assisting several population-health based programs with marketing and communications Clarissa became inspired to help communities promote good lifestyle practices and provide citizens with knowledge that would enable them to make good choices. An opportunity arose within CNIB and Clarissa was happy to put her skills and knowledge to work with this great organization.
CNIB is Canada’s oldest charity, formed in 1914. Their mission is to enhance independence for people living with vision loss. Clarissa manages CNIB’s Eye Safety Program throughout New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Through this program she teaches the importance of good vision health and safety practices at work, at home and at play. She strives to educate about vision loss so people can make good choices about their vision.
Currently, Clarissa is coordinating Dining in the Dark, an evening of exceptional food, wine, conversation and blindfolds, in support of CNIB initiatives. The event takes place on March 31 from 6-9 pm at the Newcastle Lions Center. WOMEN encourages everyone to take part in this wonderful event that will be sure to provide new insights into the experiences of the blind and partially sighted.
Clarissa is known in the Miramichi community for her work within the health authority and the Mango team, helping to promote knowledge and awareness of healthy eating and physical activity to citizens. She continues to volunteer with the program in events such as the Mango Fun Run- Go for 42 kid’s marathon. Clarissa is a member of HEPAC’s (Healthy Eating Physical Activity Coalition of NB) Marketing and Communications team and a member of the Northumberland Wellness Network. In past years, Clarissa has volunteered for the Canadian Diabetes Association, Croft Elementary School and the Miramichi Literacy Council.
Health Promotion and Marketing is a vehicle to create awareness on good lifestyle practices for citizens in communities. Clarissa is passionate about giving individuals the information they need to make informed decisions about their well-being. That is why her work with CNIB is so important to her: educating people in the Maritimes about the importance of vision health and safety. Passion, drive and commitment in an individual cannot go unnoticed and recently, Clarissa was recognized for her community commitment and contributions with a nomination and announcement as a Community Champion finalist in the upcoming Annual MYPIE Gala taking place on April 21.
Clarissa enjoys her home in Miramichi and spends her time with her family, attending church, sporting events and walking the beautiful Strawberry Marsh.
We are so pleased to recognize Clarissa’s many, many accomplishments and her numerous outstanding contributions. It is a pleasure to have her among our Board of Directors and we wish her many years of continued success on her journey to inform and educate communities and citizens on important opportunities for them.
